US FIRST sponsors a nationwide competition annually. Over a thousand high school teams are involved. By participating in this competition, students gain perspective on applying knowledge from the classroom into real-life applications. Not only is it educational, students greatly enjoy participating in this event. FIRST is exceptional at providing new experiences that sutdents wouldn't otherwise have opportunities to explore.

FIRST was founded by an inventor named Dean Kamen in 1989. Dean Kamen invented the segway, as well as many other inventions, and has won numerous awards including the Global Humanitarian Action Award from the United Nations.

The FIRST Mission: "FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs to build self-confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering."

FIRST has support from many sponsors and suppliers, including Motorola, NASA and Microsoft®.
